About us and our goal
WikiTacos is an independent encyclopedia of tacos and a guide to the shops that make them.
Who we are
WikiTacos is an independent project. It is not affiliated with Wikipedia, the Wikimedia Foundation, or any taco shop, chain or food brand listed on the site. Articles are written for WikiTacos from published sources, and every article lists its references.
Our goal
We want one trustworthy place to learn about every taco style, the regions that shaped it and the taquerías and taqueros behind it, and then to go and eat it. That means three things:
- A sourced reference on taco types, salsas, tortillas, techniques and history, written in plain language.
- A directory and map of taco shops across Mexico and the United States, built from cited sources, so people can find and support local shops.
- A community where people review shops, check in with receipts, plan taco tours and help keep listings current, with moderation so the information stays honest.
What we will not do
We do not invent ratings, reviews, quotes, addresses or dates. Ratings on WikiTacos come only from community reviews that passed moderation. Advertising, when it starts, will be labeled and will never change ratings or listing order.
