Albert's Mexican Food

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Albert's Mexican Food is a strip-mall taco shop on La Mesa Boulevard in La Mesa, in eastern San Diego County, known for large rolled tacos and crisp-shelled chicken and shredded beef tacos.

Overview

Albert's is a typical example of the independent family taco shops found in nearly every San Diego County shopping center, serving burritos, tacos and combination plates over a counter. In its 2015 survey of the region's tacos, the San Diego Reader highlighted the shop's oversized rolled tacos and its crisp hard-shell tacos filled with chicken or shredded beef. The paper also noted that dine-in customers receive pickled carrots while they wait, a tradition shared with other shops in the area, and that the daily special was often a burrito with meat and a taquito tucked inside.

Rolled tacos, sold in quantity and topped with guacamole and cheese, are a staple of the San Diego taco shop menu. Albert's shredded beef and chicken tacos are fried after filling, producing a crunchy shell distinct from the soft corn tortillas of street-style stands.
