Alebrije's Grill

Alebrije's Grill is a taco truck in downtown Santa Ana, parked at Cubbon and Main streets, that serves Mexico City and Cuernavaca-style street food and is best known for the taco acorazado.

Overview

Alebrije's operates from a pink truck just off Main Street south of downtown Santa Ana. Its cooking follows the street food of Mexico City and Cuernavaca, in the state of Morelos. Gustavo Arellano, then editor of OC Weekly, ranked its taco acorazado the most essential taco in the county in 2011 and returned to the truck repeatedly in later guides.

Menu

The acorazado, or battleship taco, is a Cuernavaca specialty: a large handmade tortilla piled with rice, breaded milanesa, nopales and onion, so heavy that it is typically eaten with a fork. The truck is also known for tripas, cut thick and griddled until crisp outside and chewy within, served with chunky nopales and onion; L.A. TACO included them on its 2020 list of the best tripas tacos in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
