Barbakush

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Barbakush is a family-run lamb barbacoa pop-up in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, that serves on Sunday mornings inside Armando's Bakery on Whittier Boulevard.

Overview

Barbakush once had its own restaurant, which has closed; the family now runs a smaller version as a Sunday pop-up at 2938 Whittier Boulevard, inside Armando's Bakery. The Infatuation reviewed the pop-up in November 2025. Service is in the morning and the business is cash only.

Barbacoa

The barbacoa is Mexican-style lamb, cooked underground in the family's backyard the night before by the owner's sons. At the pop-up, the mother presses corn tortillas, cooks them on a comal and chops the lamb to order. Lamb is sold by the half-pound or as tacos with chile de árbol salsa. The menu also includes menudo made with liver, heart, stomach and tripe and seasoned with dried chiles and cilantro.
