Overview

Birrieria Familia Castro is located at 6102 Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood, in a modest white building shared with other businesses just north of Oxnard Street. It is run by Anthony Castro with his parents, Gema and José Castro. In October 2025, NBC Los Angeles reported that Yelp had ranked it first in the United States on its Top 100 Taco Spots list, an honor Castro called surreal.

Food

The birria is a family recipe that, according to Castro, was handed down from his grandmother, who learned it from her mother. The meat is cooked for three to four hours every day, and tortillas, salsas and drinks are made on site. Sources do not give a founding date.
