Bonita Chilanga

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Bonita Chilanga is a taco truck at 21st and Mission streets in San Francisco known for its self-serve bar of blended salsas.

Overview

The truck's name refers to chilangos, a nickname for people from Mexico City. It was little known outside the neighborhood until the San Francisco Standard placed it among its top picks in a 2026 taco survey, describing it as fairly off the radar.

Its calling card is the salsa station, where customers ladle their own blended sauces. One of them, a brick-red salsa made with chile de árbol, guajillo and coffee, drew particular attention in the Standard's write-up.

The menu covers truck staples such as lengua (beef tongue) and carne asada tacos, along with birria ramen, a mash-up of the Jalisco stew with instant noodles that spread through Mexican-American food trucks in the early 2020s.
