Cacao Mexicatessen is a counter-service taco shop on Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, best known for duck carnitas tacos.

Overview

Cacao had been serving tacos for more than a decade at the time of The Infatuation's 2022 review. It combines an order-at-the-counter taco shop with a larger adjacent dining room that offers a full cocktail list, and its menu draws on Baja California as well as more inventive fillings.

Duck carnitas on blue corn tortillas are the signature taco. The Ensenada fish taco, made with a large fried fillet, crema and pickled red onion, can be ordered with sea urchin and is listed among The Infatuation's 11 best fish tacos in Los Angeles. Other options include a sesame-topped Korean short rib taco and a duck guisado with cracklings and nopales in chile de árbol salsa.
