History

In early 2025 the family-events site Macaroni KID Modesto, working with local food blogger Cuzzoeats, ran a several-week search for the city's best tacos based on community nominations and votes. Carmelitas finished as the favorite, ahead of nominees such as Tacos El Bandido, Jacos Tacos and Tacos El Viejon, and received advertising on the site as its prize. The taquería sits on Modesto's east side close to the unincorporated town of Empire.
