City Tacos

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

City Tacos is a San Diego taco chain, started in North Park, that builds its menu around regional Mexican fillings and a wide range of vegetarian tacos.

History

City Tacos was started by Mexico City native Gerry Torres together with chef Tony Guan, formerly of Underbelly, who later left the business. The first shop sits near the North Park sign on University Avenue, and the company has since opened other locations, including Ocean Beach. The same team opened Fonda del Barrio, a sit-down restaurant on Logan Avenue in Barrio Logan.

Tacos are inspired by regional Mexican dishes. Examples include achiote-marinated cochinita pibil, a Veracruz-style fish taco with tomato, onion, garlic and capers, a deep-fried chile relleno taco and a grilled portobello taco. Churros are served for dessert.
