Dos Chinos

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Dos Chinos is a Santa Ana restaurant that blends Mexican and Asian cooking, known for a dulce de leche walnut shrimp taco.

Overview

OC Weekly's 2015 county taco guide listed it on East Fourth Street, the commercial heart of the city's historic Mexican shopping district. Its menu fuses Mexican street food with Chinese and other Asian flavors, a pairing with a long history in Mexico itself, where Chinese immigrant communities in Mexicali and elsewhere developed their own blended cuisine.

The signature is a taco of shrimp in a dulce de leche and walnut sauce, a play on the honey walnut shrimp found in Chinese-American restaurants. OC Weekly reported that a version of the dish had won the paper's Summerfest taco contest. Fusion tacos of this kind became common in Orange County in the wake of the Korean taco truck boom of the late 2000s.
