El Gallo Giro
El Gallo Giro is a family-run taco truck that has parked at the corner of 23rd Street and Treat Avenue in San Francisco's Mission District since the early 2000s.
Overview
The truck has worked the same Mission corner for more than two decades; a 2026 San Francisco Standard survey gave its opening year as 2002. It operates during the day only, and customers eat at fold-out tables set up in an adjacent parking lot, a setup that has made it a neighborhood fixture rather than a late-night stop.
El Gallo Giro is a family operation, and it has a long-standing following among local cooks. In a 2025 Standard poll of restaurant professionals, a chef described himself as a regular since 2010 and named its chicken taco as his pick.
Menu
The menu is a classic truck lineup of griddled meats on corn tortillas. Carnitas, carne asada and chicharrón are the fillings most often mentioned in press coverage, with the carnitas crisped on the plancha. The truck is not related to the Southern California restaurant chain of the same name.
