El Jumping Bean Taqueria

El Jumping Bean Taqueria is a small Imperial Valley taquería chain founded by Guillermo 'Memo' Castillo III, with a location on Birch Street in Calexico, California, opened in January 2025 and known for carne asada tacos.

History

According to The Desert Review, El Jumping Bean began with founder Guillermo 'Memo' Castillo III selling burritos out of an ice chest, getting up at 3 a.m. to make a small profit. His mother, Eva Castillo, helped in the early days by driving him around and preparing the salsa, vegetables and meat. His sister Jennifer Castillo described the business's growth from that start.

The Calexico restaurant at 114 West Birch Street held its grand opening on January 13, 2025. The newspaper reported that the business had grown to three locations, including one in Brawley.

Food

Carne asada tacos are the signature dish, and a customer quoted by the paper praised the shop's asada as among the best in the Imperial Valley. The restaurant serves Mexican food in a colorful dining room and opens daily at 10 a.m.
