El Premio Mayor

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

El Premio Mayor is a family-owned Fresno, California, taquería and taco truck business, the most decorated competitor in Fresno's Taco Truck Throwdown.

History

Belen Melendrez Ramirez started the business, which has been family-owned for about three decades and is now run by her daughter, Bianca Loza. Fresno's Taco Truck Throwdown, an annual contest started in 2011 by the Fresno Grizzlies minor-league baseball club, brings trucks to the ballpark where fans and a judging panel pick winners. Fresnoland counts eight Throwdown trophies for El Premio Mayor, including sweeps of the awards in 2012, 2015 and 2016 and People's Choice wins in 2017 and 2019. In 2022 a California Assembly member named it a regional Small Business of the Year.

Carne asada tacos are the anchor, with eight filling options that include chile verde. The menu also covers burritos, sopes, quesadillas, about ten kinds of tortas, and Fresno favorites such as bacon-wrapped burritos and bacon-wrapped Mexican hot dogs.
