El Sultán

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

El Sultán is a tacos árabes taquería on a pedestrian street in the historic center of Puebla.

Overview

Texas Monthly included El Sultán in a guide to eating in Puebla, describing it as a place for tacos árabes carved from the trompo on a pedestrian street in the Centro Histórico. Tacos árabes, Puebla's contribution to the family of spit-roasted meats brought by Middle Eastern immigrants, are made with marinated pork shaved from a vertical spit and wrapped in pan árabe, a soft wheat flatbread, typically with chipotle salsa and lime.

The location on Victoria del 5 de Mayo, a pedestrianized street a short walk from the cathedral and zócalo, makes it a convenient stop for visitors exploring the colonial center. The name, like those of other Puebla taquerías such as La Oriental and Bagdad, nods to the Middle Eastern roots of the dish.
