El Taco Perrón
El Taco Perrón is a taco truck that works Main Street in Santa Ana, known for oversized flour-tortilla tacos with beans and cheese and for Veracruz-style picaditas.
Overview
El Taco Perrón (the name is slang that translates loosely as "badass taco") is a lonchera that moves between two Main Street corners in Santa Ana: Bishop Street in the mornings and Walnut Street in the evenings. Gustavo Arellano profiled it for OC Weekly in September 2017, using it as an example of the city's thriving, lightly regulated truck scene at a time when the Santa Ana City Council had passed new restrictions on taco trucks, which he opposed.
Menu
The signature taco is large: a freshly made flour tortilla spread with refried beans and cheese, then filled with a choice of meat and topped with pickled red onion and salsa. The truck also makes gorditas, pichangas (oversized, overstuffed quesadillas), picaditas in the Veracruz style (thick masa bases topped with crema and salsa), mulitas, alambres and huaraches.
