El Viejón Seafood
El Viejón Seafood is a fast-casual mariscos restaurant group in San Diego from Luis and Angelica Gonzalez, with locations on Convoy Street, in Mira Mesa and in Otay Ranch.
Overview
Luis and Angelica Gonzalez, who also own Lupe's Mexican Eatery and the ice-pop shop Holy Paleta, created El Viejón as a counter-service take on the Mexican seafood restaurant. It has grown to three locations: in the Convoy district of Kearny Mesa, in Mira Mesa and in Otay Ranch in Chula Vista. San Diego Magazine placed it on its 2025 list of the county's forty best tacos.
Menu
The house taco, also called El Viejón, starts with a thick flour tortilla griddled until browned, then layers smoked tuna, shrimp and octopus with cabbage, cilantro, fried onions and crema. The combination of smoked fish and shellfish follows a style common in Sinaloa and Baja California mariscos stands. The magazine also singled out the restaurant's red salsa.
