Frida's Taqueria
Frida's Taqueria is a family-owned Tijuana-style taco shop founded in Escondido in 2020 by Gracy and Robert Ayala, with later locations in Oceanside and Vista.
History
The Ayalas opened their first shop, then called Frida's Street Tacos, in Escondido in 2020, during the pandemic, with the aim of recreating an authentic Tijuana taco shop. NBC 7 San Diego reported in November 2021 that the restaurant had twice been hit by vehicles in about a year; after a possibly stolen SUV drove through the front door, staff served customers in the parking lot while the storefront was boarded up. That Thanksgiving the owners gave away free taco meals to thank the community, with many employees working without pay.
The business later grew into Frida's Taqueria, with locations in Escondido, Oceanside and Vista. In October 2024 What Now San Diego reported plans for a fourth shop in a food court at 1158 West San Marcos Boulevard in San Marcos and a reported purchase of a restaurant in Temecula.
Menu
Al pastor tacos are the signature, alongside burritos and a baked potato loaded with vegetables, avocado and spicy sauce.
