Kogi BBQ
Kogi BBQ is a Los Angeles Korean-Mexican food truck business founded in November 2008 by Mark Manguera and Caroline Shin with chef Roy Choi, known for short rib tacos.
History
Kogi launched on November 19, 2008, as a roaming truck that parked for a few hours at a time and announced its locations on Twitter. Early publicity came from giving samples to nightclub bouncers and from food bloggers, and Newsweek called it America's first viral eatery. By mid-2011 it operated five trucks. Its chef, Roy Choi, was named a Best New Chef by Food & Wine in 2010, the first food-truck cook to receive the honor, and Kogi received a Bon Appétit award in 2009.
The business opened a residency at the Alibi Room in Culver City in 2009 and a brick-and-mortar Kogi Taqueria in Palms in 2016. Time Out credits it with helping start the Los Angeles food-truck movement.
Menu
The signature short rib taco tops corn tortillas with chopped galbi and a scallion slaw. Other items include a spicy pork burrito, spicy pork sliders, a kimchi quesadilla, tofu options and short rib sliders.
