La Casa de los Tacos

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

La Casa de los Tacos is a taquería in Coyoacán, Mexico City, known for pre-Hispanic fillings such as maguey worms and grasshoppers.

Overview

Time Out México's list of essential taquerías described La Casa de los Tacos as a Coyoacán spot that serves insect and wild-food fillings: maguey worms (chinicuiles and meocuiles), chapulines (grasshoppers), green chorizo and stuffed squash. The guide added that wild boar or venison could be requested.

Chilango's 2023 survey of Coyoacán taquerías gave its address as Felipe Carrillo Puerto 16, near central Coyoacán, and listed it as open daily from morning until late evening.

Context

Insects such as chapulines, escamoles and maguey worms have been eaten in central Mexico since before the Spanish conquest and remain a feature of the capital's more traditional kitchens. Mexico City has thousands of taquerías, from sidewalk stands to sit-down restaurants, and food media such as Chilango, Time Out México and The Infatuation regularly compile guides to the ones locals return to.
