La Elegante Taquería

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

La Elegante Taquería is a taquería on Kern Street in Fresno's Chinatown, California, founded in 1985 by Benito Arenas and known for adobada tacos.

History

Benito Arenas opened La Elegante in 1985. He died in 2022 at the age of 88, and his son Abel Arenas now runs the business. Fresno's Taco Truck Throwdown, an annual contest started in 2011 by the Fresno Grizzlies minor-league baseball club, brings trucks to the ballpark where fans and a judging panel pick winners. La Elegante has won three Throwdown trophies, including a clean sweep in 2014 and the People's Choice award at the first contest in 2011. In 2016 Food Network ranked its adobada tacos seventh on a list of the best things to eat in California.

Adobada, pork marinated in red chile, is the signature. Other tacos include asada, lengua, cabeza and birria. Menudo is made daily and sold until it runs out, and the menu also lists molletes and large aguas frescas.
