La Palma Mexicatessen

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

La Palma Mexicatessen is a tortillería and Mexican grocery on 24th Street in San Francisco's Mission District that also serves tacos made on its own fresh tortillas.

Overview

La Palma is first of all a tortilla factory and provisions shop. It sells fresh masa, tortillas, beans and other Mexican staples to home cooks and restaurants, and the hot-food counter grew out of that trade. Because the tortillas are pressed and cooked on site, its tacos are often recommended to people who want to taste a fresh corn tortilla rather than a packaged one.

The San Francisco Standard's 2026 survey of the city's tacos placed La Palma among its runners-up, highlighting a carne asada taco on a house-made tortilla dressed with an emulsified chile de árbol salsa.

Role in the neighborhood

The 24th Street corridor is one of the densest concentrations of Mexican and Central American businesses in San Francisco, and La Palma is one of the places where masa and tortillas for that community are produced.
