La Parrilla Loca
La Parrilla Loca is a taco truck in East Oakland noted as one of the first in the city to cook over charcoal and to carve al pastor from a hand-built trompo.
Overview
The truck's name, sometimes spelled La Parilla Loca, refers to its grill. According to Visit Oakland, it was among the first Oakland taco trucks to offer charcoal-grilled meats and a hand-carved trompo of al pastor, two features that set it apart from trucks cooking on a flat griddle. Folding tables and chairs are set up beside the trailer for customers who want to eat on site. Members of a Bay Area food forum discussing the San Francisco Chronicle's Bay Area taco guide noted the truck as one of that guide's highlights.
Menu
Tacos are built on handmade corn tortillas and filled with carne asada or pork, then finished with onion, cilantro, a fire-roasted salsa and guacamole. The combination of charcoal-cooked beef and pastor shaved from the spit is the reason the truck is most often recommended.
