La Perla

Also known as: La Perla #3

La Perla is a small group of counter-service taco shops in San Diego, whose Point Loma branch on Rosecrans Street is known for carne asada tacos and an Oaxaca cheese-wrapped burrito.

Overview

La Perla follows the San Diego taco shop model of ordering at the counter and waiting for a number. The Point Loma location, signed as La Perla #3, has a shaded patio and a whiteboard by the register that posts the current wait, which can exceed half an hour at busy times.

San Diego Magazine singled out the carne asada tacos, judging them on par with the shop's burritos. The best-known item is the Oaxacalifornia burrito, filled with carne asada and pico de gallo and wrapped in a quesadilla made with Oaxacan cheese, a local twist on the California burrito.
