La Santa Torta
La Santa Torta is an Oakland taco truck, with a later brick-and-mortar location on Linden Avenue, that was among the first in the Bay Area to sell Jalisco-style quesabirria.
Overview
The truck usually works the area around Jack London Square, with the Infatuation listing it at 333 Broadway, and it also makes regular appearances outside the city, including afternoon and evening service at East Brother Beer Co. in Richmond. Visit Oakland credits it as one of the earliest Bay Area trucks to offer quesabirria, the red, cheese-crusted birria taco popularized in Jalisco and Tijuana. The truck has no seating, so customers typically eat in their cars; the Linden Avenue storefront has seating on some days.
Menu
The core order is a trio of red tacos filled with spiced shredded beef and melted cheese, griddled until the shell crisps and served with pickled red onion, salsa and a cup of chile-forward consommé for dipping. The kitchen also serves birria with egg noodles, onion and cilantro. In 2022 the San Francisco Chronicle gave the truck an honorable mention in its guide to the top tacos of the East Bay.
