Loló

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Loló is a Mexican restaurant and cocktail bar on Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission District, best known for a shrimp taco served on a thin slice of jícama.

Overview

Loló is a sit-down restaurant with a bar program rather than a counter taquería, and its tacos lean toward creative, Jalisco-influenced small plates. Its best-known dish is the Taco Tropical, in which a paper-thin slice of jícama stands in for the tortilla and holds crispy fried shrimp and a mango salsa.

The dish has stayed on the menu for more than a decade. In a 2025 San Francisco Standard poll, a Bay Area chef said he had been ordering it for that long, and the Standard's 2026 survey again mentioned Loló's panko-fried shrimp tacos with tropical relish.

Context

Loló represents the Mission's newer generation of Mexican restaurants, which pair tacos with cocktails and design-driven dining rooms alongside the neighborhood's older taquerías.
