Los Cinco Puntos
Los Cinco Puntos is a family-run carnicería, market and taquería in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, founded in 1967 and known for carnitas, chicharrón and handmade tortillas.
History
The business takes its name from its location at the five-way intersection of East Los Angeles streets known as Cinco Puntos, on César E. Chávez Avenue. The Infatuation dates its opening to 1967 and notes that the spot served as the starting point of the Chicano Moratorium march against the Vietnam War. Saveur and Time Out both describe it as a long-standing East Los Angeles institution run by the same family for decades.
Menu
Behind the butcher counter the shop sells tacos, tortas, sopes, flautas and tamales. Chicharrón tacos and carnitas made from large pieces of pork shoulder are its signature orders, and Saveur noted carnitas served with tart nopales. Handmade corn tortillas are also sold in bulk, and a salsa bar includes pickled nopales and guacamole.
