Los Reyes del Elote Asado

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Los Reyes del Elote Asado is a Santa Ana street stand that OC Weekly recommended for mole poblano tacos with grilled chicken on handmade tortillas.

Overview

Despite a name that advertises grilled corn, Los Reyes del Elote Asado drew the attention of OC Weekly's 2015 guide to Orange County tacos for something else: tacos of grilled chicken covered in mole poblano and served on handmade tortillas. The guide located the stand at the corner of Chestnut Avenue and Main Street in Santa Ana.

Elote asado, corn on the cob roasted over coals and finished with mayonnaise, cheese, chile and lime, is one of the most familiar street foods of Mexican Southern California, and stands that sell it often add a few prepared dishes. Mole poblano, the dark sauce of Puebla made from dried chiles, chocolate, nuts, seeds and spices, is usually reserved for celebrations and plated meals, which makes it an unusual taco filling at a street stand. Draped over grilled rather than stewed chicken and wrapped in tortillas pressed by hand, the combination joins a festive sauce to everyday street food.
