Mariscos German Beyer

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Mariscos German Beyer is a seafood taco truck in San Ysidro, San Diego, operated by Jorge Fuentes since 2005 and described as one of the first trucks in the city to serve only mariscos.

History

Jorge Fuentes ran a mariscos stand in Tijuana from 1997 until 2001, then moved to construction work in San Diego. When building jobs slowed in 2005 he and a partner, whose name became the business name, launched a seafood truck. The operation grew to three trucks before the two men split in 2007; Fuentes kept the name and concentrated on the truck that parks on Beyer Boulevard beside a liquor store, about twenty minutes south of downtown.

The truck's tacos borrow from several traditions. The chimichurri taco tops griddled fish with Argentine-style chimichurri, arugula, avocado and mayonnaise; the gaucho combines smoked tuna and octopus; and the Sweet Devil coats battered fish in a spicy sweet-and-sour sauce. Cook's Country highlighted the ahi-chile tostada, an aguachile variation built on raw tuna with pineapple and olive oil. Ceviches and shrimp aguachiles round out the board.
