Mony's Mexican Food

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Mony's Mexican Food is a counter-service taquería in Santa Barbara's Funk Zone, California, that grew out of a food truck and is known for its large self-serve salsa bar.

History

Husband and wife Mony and Jose Diaz first sold food from a truck and opened their brick-and-mortar shop on Anacapa Street in July 2013, according to the Santa Barbara Independent. Visit Santa Barbara describes it as a local staple of the Funk Zone since then, with a lunchtime line that moves fast; the bureau advises arriving by noon.

The salsa bar is the main draw, with an unusually wide range that has included a pistachio salsa. Tacos come with carnitas, carne asada, fish or vegetables, and the kitchen also serves chorizo-filled breakfast burritos and chilaquiles verdes. Early coverage noted free chips for customers eating in.
