Naranjos Taqueria
Naranjos Taqueria is a taquería on Broadway in Redwood City noted by the San Francisco Chronicle for its Michoacán-style beef barbacoa tacos.
Overview
The San Francisco Chronicle's associate restaurant critic Cesar Hernandez wrote about the taquería in a column on dishes he regretted not ordering sooner, alongside a Oaxacan restaurant and a Korean restaurant in San Francisco. The dish that drew his attention at Naranjos was its barbacoa.
Barbacoa
The barbacoa follows the Michoacán tradition, in which beef is slow-cooked with chiles and spices until it falls apart, rather than the lamb barbacoa pit-roasted in central Mexico. Hernandez recommended ordering the tacos on the shop's soft, handmade corn tortillas. Each order arrives with a cup of beef broth on the side, in the manner of birria and other stewed-meat tacos where the cooking liquid doubles as a soup or a dip.
