History

In 2018 Thrillist published a state-by-state list of the best tacos in the United States, and its California judge, Matt Meltzer, chose Nuestro Mexico's carne asada taco. Bakersfield television station KBAK/KBFX reported on the selection, describing the restaurant as bright, colorful and family-run. Co-owner Josue Sanchez told the station the recognition came as a surprise and credited the staff's care for the food.

The honored taco is filled with grilled steak marinated in a Mexican spice blend; Meltzer remarked that a single taco carries roughly three street tacos' worth of meat. The restaurant serves a broader Mexican menu beyond tacos.
