Overview

Ortiz's is a counter-service shop of the kind that defines San Diego's everyday Mexican food: short menu, large portions, and a mix of tacos, burritos and plates. It sits a short distance from the surf break known as Garbage Beach in Sunset Cliffs.

The house carne asada is marinated overnight in soy sauce and spices and grilled until the edges crisp, and it fills both tacos and the shop's California burrito. That burrito swaps rice and beans for thin-cut fries, adds sour cream and a mix of jack and cheddar, and skips pico de gallo. A hot red salsa is available on the side. The Infatuation has placed the burrito on its national list of the best burritos in the country.
