Papalote Mexican Grill
Papalote Mexican Grill is a San Francisco taquería owned by brothers Victor and Miguel Escobedo, known for its roasted-tomato salsa and for beating Bobby Flay on Throwdown in 2010.
History
The Escobedo brothers opened Papalote around 2000 and became known for grilling each burrito's meat to order. The original shop is on 24th Street in the Mission, and a second location opened at Masonic and Fulton. In December 2009 Food Network chef Bobby Flay arrived unannounced and challenged them to a triple-meat burrito; the episode aired in February 2010, and Papalote's chicken, prawn and carne asada burrito won.
Menu
Papalote's creamy orange roasted-tomato salsa is its signature; Flay himself asked for a jar. Munchies noted the restaurant's relatively upscale clientele and listed it among the city's essential burrito stops.
