Ponce's Mexican Restaurant
Ponce's Mexican Restaurant is a family-run Mexican restaurant on Adams Avenue in San Diego's Kensington neighborhood, founded in 1969 by Ponce Meza Sr.
History
Ponce Meza Sr. opened the restaurant in 1969. In 2000 his children, Ponce Meza Jr., an accounting graduate of San Diego State University, and Rocio Meza, took over the business. The Kensington restaurant sits about ten minutes from the university's Viejas Arena and often fills on nights when the men's basketball team plays. The family later opened a second location in North County, which stays open during the week between Christmas and New Year's, when the original customarily closes.
Menu
Ponce's serves large portions of Mexican-American comfort food from its original recipes, including enchiladas still made with cheddar cheese. The chile relleno plate is one of its best-known dishes, and the restaurant has a full bar.
