Revolutionario
Revolutionario is a taquería on West Jefferson Boulevard in South Los Angeles opened in 2015 by French-Algerian chef Farid Zadi and his wife, Susan, known for North African tacos such as a black-eyed pea falafel taco.
History
Revolutionario opened quietly on May 31, 2015, at 1436 West Jefferson Boulevard near the University of Southern California, according to a KCET (now PBS SoCal) profile by Cynthia Dea. Chef Farid Zadi, a French Algerian from Lyon, had spent years in fine dining, taught at Le Cordon Bleu and previously ran Cafe Livre et le Marche in Culver City. He runs the business with his wife and partner, Susan; the taquería grew out of their pop-up events.
Menu
The tacos fuse North African cooking with the taquería format. KCET described smoked beef and lamb, smoked outdoors for about four hours, red, green and habanero harissas, a wok-cooked shakshuka and a black-eyed pea falafel taco that was the most popular item. About 70 percent of orders were vegetarian, and a value menu kept many tacos under $2. Weekend brunches with chef Rui Mateo added ceviche and tiradito. The source dates from 2015, so the restaurant's current status is unconfirmed.
