Sonoma Eats is a Oaxacan-leaning restaurant on the Sonoma Highway run by chef Efrain Balmes, known for Baja fish tacos and potato tacos.

Overview

Sonoma Eats is at 18133 Sonoma Highway, in the Springs area north of the city of Sonoma. Sonoma Magazine's dining editor named it among the county's best tacos, recommending the Baja-style fish tacos and the potato tacos, and said the restaurant serves Oaxacan food under chef Efrain Balmes.

Context

Oaxacan cooks and families make up a large part of the Sonoma Valley's Mexican community, and Oaxacan dishes such as tlayudas, moles and memelas have become more common in the county's restaurants. Baja fish tacos, battered and fried fish with cabbage and crema, come from the Ensenada region, and potato tacos are a common meat-free option. Sources consulted do not give a founding date.
