Taco Mesa

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Taco Mesa is an Orange County counter-service Mexican restaurant known for fresh tortillas, chicken tacos in colored tortillas and a free escabeche bar, with a tortillería at its Orange location.

Overview

Taco Mesa occupies a middle ground between the traditional taquería and the fast-casual chain, serving inexpensive counter-service food with an emphasis on ingredient quality. ABC7 reported in 2018 that the restaurants use organic greens, natural meats and wild-caught fish, avoid MSG and artificial coloring, and make tortillas fresh from non-GMO corn, with an on-site tortillería at the Orange location.

OC Weekly's 2015 county taco guide recommended the chicken tacos, served on colored tortillas, and noted the free escabeche, the pickled jalapeños, carrots and onions that Mexican taquerías commonly offer alongside salsas. Colored tortillas are made by blending vegetable or chile purées into the masa, a practice more common at modern restaurants than at traditional taquerías.
