Tacos Al Pastor Puebla

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos Al Pastor Puebla is a weekend taco stand on Coliseum Way in Oakland, near the Oakland Flea Market, that serves only al pastor. The San Francisco Chronicle ranked it first among the Bay Area's al pastor tacos.

Overview

The stand operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from morning until late afternoon, timed to the crowds visiting the nearby flea market. Its name points to the central Mexican state of Puebla, and the menu is unusually narrow: al pastor is the only meat on offer, so the entire operation revolves around the spit.

Pork is sliced from the spit for tacos and for gringas, a flour-tortilla quesadilla filled with pastor and melted cheese. Toppings include pickled onions and habanero, with a choice of a smoky red salsa or a creamy, tangy green one. In its ranking of the five greatest al pastor tacos in the Bay Area, the Chronicle's critic Cesar Hernandez put this stand at the top of the list.
