Tacos del Barrio

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos del Barrio is a Mexico City-style taquería on 24th Street in San Francisco's Mission District, opened in the early 2020s by two childhood friends from Mexico City.

History

The taquería occupies the former home of the Roosevelt Tamale Parlor, a long-running Mission restaurant, on the 24th Street corridor. It was founded by two friends who grew up together in Mexico City, and the San Francisco Standard dated its opening to roughly three years before its 2026 taco survey.

The shop quickly drew attention in local food media. The Infatuation's San Francisco taco coverage describes its chilango-style tacos as among the best in the city, and the Standard placed it among the honorable mentions in its 2026 roundup.

The kitchen focuses on the street tacos of the Mexican capital. Its signature is an al pastor negro, a dark-marinated variation on the spit-roasted pork taco, alongside carnitas and birria. Tacos are served on corn tortillas with the usual onion and cilantro garnish.
