Tacos del Carmen

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos del Carmen is a daytime taco and antojitos stand in central Oaxaca City that has been cooking on coal-fired comals since 1974.

Overview

The Infatuation places Tacos del Carmen at Jesús Carranza 110 in the Ruta Independencia area of the city center and reports that it has been serving food since 1974. Two coal-fired comals do the cooking. Oaxaca Travel Tips, in its 2026 guide to the city's tacos, notes that it operates in the daytime and closes by early afternoon.

Beyond tacos the stand makes quesadillas, memelas, empanadas and tlayudas. The Infatuation pointed readers to anything made with chorizo, to the stuffed-chile tacos and to the empanada de amarillo, filled with the yellow mole of the region; squash-blossom tacos are a vegetarian option. Oaxaca Travel Tips describes the chile relleno taco as a chile de agua stuffed with beef and quesillo, and also recommends the grilled chorizo.

Oaxaca de Juárez has its own taco culture built on local ingredients such as tasajo (thin salted beef), cecina enchilada (chile-rubbed pork), chorizo, quesillo and chile de agua, served alongside the tlayudas and memelas the state is known for. Street carts are not allowed to operate in the city on Wednesdays, although the rule is often relaxed on holidays.
