Overview

El Chavito parks on residential side streets near Slater Avenue in Huntington Beach, a city better known for surfing than for taco trucks. OC Weekly reported in 2011 that it parked on Morgan Lane, just south of Slater, on weekdays and on Queens Lane, north of Slater, on weekends. That year Gustavo Arellano placed it third on his list of ten great tacos in Orange County, and the paper's 2015 guide again listed it for the same bargain of two tacos for a dollar.

The draw is the price combined with fresh street-style tacos of grilled and stewed meats on small corn tortillas with onion, cilantro and salsa. Arellano also noted that the truck handed out free pineapple juice while supplies lasted. Trucks of this kind, serving working neighborhoods on regular schedules, form the backbone of the taco scene in much of Orange County.
