Tacos El Chilanguito is a Mexico City-style taco truck on Phelan Avenue in San José, ranked third among the Bay Area's al pastor tacos by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Overview

The truck parks at 115 Phelan Ave. and serves in the evenings from Tuesday through Saturday. Its name uses chilango, the colloquial term for a person from Mexico City, and the San Francisco Chronicle described it as an envoy of the capital's taco culture.

Its al pastor is marinated with guajillo chiles and achiote and each taco is topped with a slab of pineapple. The truck also makes the al pastor gringa, a Mexico City specialty of two flour tortillas filled with pastor and melted cheese. Critic Cesar Hernandez ranked the truck third in his list of the five greatest al pastor tacos in the Bay Area, the highest placement for a San José business on that list.
