Tacos El Compadre
Tacos El Compadre, nicknamed Tacos del Muerto, is a family taquería in central Monterrey, Nuevo León, facing the Panteón del Carmen cemetery and known for crisp plancha tacos.
History
The taquería has been in the same family for more than fifty years and is now run by the third generation. Because it sits across the street from the Panteón del Carmen, locals call it tacos del muerto, the dead man's tacos. It was listed in the first Michelin Guide Mexico in 2024, and POSTA reported that some regulars reserve their tacos a day or two in advance.
Menu
Diners pick corn or flour tortillas and a filling, which is seared on an oiled plancha so the tortilla browns and crisps. The signature is cabeza, chopped beef head meat; other choices include pierna, pork shank stewed in red chile, picadillo of potato and ground beef, and chicharrón. Toppings include a salsa borracha, cabbage salad, stewed onion, toreado chiles and lime.
