Tacos El Flamingo

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos El Flamingo is a taquería in downtown San Mateo that grew out of a Peninsula taco truck.

Overview

Tacos El Flamingo began as a food truck that built a following on the Peninsula before opening a permanent restaurant at 168 E. Fourth Ave. in downtown San Mateo. An event listing on Funcheap SF advertised a grand-opening celebration at the new restaurant on June 17, 2022, hosted by the owner, identified only as Felipe.

The listing did not describe the menu, and the sources consulted for this article do not give the truck's founding date or detail its specialties.

Context

The move from truck to storefront is a common path for Bay Area taco businesses, which often use a mobile kitchen to build a customer base before taking on the cost of a lease. Downtown San Mateo, near the Caltrain station, has a mix of Mexican, Japanese and other casual restaurants, and the Peninsula's taco trucks are concentrated along El Camino Real and in Redwood City and East Palo Alto.
