Tacos El Gordo

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos El Gordo is a taco truck on International Boulevard in Oakland's Fruitvale area, part of a family business that also runs restaurants in San Leandro. It is unrelated to the Tijuana-founded chain of the same name.

History

According to Hoodline, the business started as a small taco stand at the corner of 42nd Avenue and East 14th Street, the old name for International Boulevard, in Fruitvale. It later grew to include two brick-and-mortar locations in San Leandro, while the truck remained at 4201 International Blvd. Hoodline included it in several lists of Oakland's favorite affordable taco spots and food trucks in 2018 and 2019.

The menu covers tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas and huaraches. Beyond beef, pork, chicken and sausage, the truck offers specialty cuts favored at Mexican street stands, including tripas, suadero (the navel or brisket cut), lengua and sesos (brain). Burritos come loaded with rice, beans, cheese and carnitas, and tortas are dressed with tomato, lettuce, cheese, sour cream and salsa.
