Overview

El Negro is devoted to tacos al vapor, a steamed-beef style associated with Jalisco. The beef is cooked for hours in a steam bath and the corn tortillas are steamed until soft, so the tacos come out moist and pliable rather than crisp. The Infatuation notes they are typically ordered by the plateful.

Tacos are topped with onion, cilantro and a thin guacamole, and a habanero salsa adds heat. The restaurant operates in South Gate on Imperial Highway and in neighboring Bell Gardens, both in southeast Los Angeles County. It is one of the few steamed-taco specialists named in The Infatuation's guide to the city's 25 best tacos.
