Tacos La Carreta

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos La Carreta is a Sinaloa-style taco truck, now based in North Long Beach, California, known for chorreadas made with grilled steak.

History

La Carreta started as a street cart and became a food truck. It operated in Compton, where Time Out listed it on North Wilmington Avenue, before moving to an industrial stretch of North Long Beach a couple of years before The Infatuation's 2022 review. Time Out also lists a Whittier location.

The specialty is the chorreada, a Sinaloan preparation in which a toasted corn tortilla is brushed with pork fat and topped with chopped grilled steak and a salsa thickened with cabbage. Variations include the vampiro, which adds melted cheese, and the papa loca, which substitutes a baked potato for the tortilla. Time Out also mentions callo de hacha, a scallop and shrimp plate. Agua de cebada, a sweet roasted-barley drink, is served alongside.
