Overview

Tacos Los Altos is a small mom-and-pop restaurant on Bernal Heights' main commercial street. In the San Francisco Standard's 2025 survey of restaurant professionals, the chef of an Indian restaurant in the city chose it as her favorite, recommending its mushroom quesabirria and a "super veggie" taco made with black beans, along with the house hot salsa.

The menu combines standard taquería fillings with vegetarian versions of popular dishes. Its meatless take on quesabirria uses mushrooms in place of braised beef, while still offering the griddled, cheese-crusted tortilla that defines the style. The salsa is made in house and was singled out by the chef who recommended the restaurant, and the menu offers standard meat fillings for diners who want a conventional taco.
