Tacos Los Cholos

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquería

Tacos Los Cholos is a mesquite-grill taquería chain that started in Anaheim, California, in 2019 and now includes a location on Pacific Boulevard in Huntington Park.

History

According to What Now, Josue Maldonado and Michael Alvarado started Los Cholos in Anaheim in March 2019, cooking out of a front yard with little capital. ABC7 described the early days as carne asada pop-ups for friends and family that grew into two Orange County taquerías, at 821 S State College Blvd in Anaheim and 1653 W Orangethorpe Ave in Fullerton. By October 2025 What Now listed locations in Anaheim, Fullerton, Huntington Park and Huntington Beach, with outposts planned for Eastvale and downtown Santa Ana.

The Huntington Park location is a two-story restaurant on the city's main commercial street. Los Cholos has become one of the most decorated taquerías in L.A. TACO's annual Taco Madness: it was the 2023 champion, won the online tournament again in 2025 with its mesquite-grilled ribeye, and won the 2026 tournament after several rounds of reader voting.

Meats are cooked over mesquite charcoal and sorted into regular, premium and prime tiers. Carne asada and finely chopped beef rib (costilla) are staples, and the ribeye taco, tenderized in lime, is the most celebrated premium option. Other choices include grilled panela cheese and a taco built around a roasted Anaheim chile. Time Out and The Infatuation both place it among the best taquerías in Los Angeles.
