Tacos Mama Cuca
Tacos Mama Cuca is a Sonoran-style taquería on Market Street at the Oakland–Emeryville line, known for flour-tortilla tacos of mesquite-grilled pork.
Overview
The San Francisco Chronicle placed Mama Cuca fourth in its ranking of the five best al pastor tacos in the Bay Area, while noting that the shop does not use a trompo at all. Instead, in the manner of northern Mexico, pork steaks marinated in adobo are grilled over mesquite charcoal, chopped and served on flour tortillas. The Chronicle gives its address as 5909 Market St. in Oakland, though a photo caption in the same piece places it in Emeryville.
Menu
Tacos are paired with a salsa of charred chiles and tomatoes mashed in a molcajete and studded with pineapple, a nod to the fruit normally carved from the top of an al pastor spit. The shop opens from late morning on Tuesdays through Sundays, with longer evening hours on weekends.
